It’s a sport that’s not particularly well covered in the UK – but in the rest of Europe and America, hundreds of thousands fans flock to watch riders wrestle powerful dirt bikes around precarious courses.

So, why is it worth your attention?

Here we pick four reasons why MXGP Pro deserves to win over a load more new fans.

MXGP Pro is powered by Unreal 4 – and looks stunning

Graphics

EA Sports may make a song a dance about FIFA 18’s Frostbite  technology but Unreal Engine 4 is arguably more impressive – and it’s what is powering MXGP Pro.

The result is a silky smooth ride with a glorious attention to detail.

Mud flicks up, motion blur helps create a real sensation of speed – while sunlight peeks through gaps in the trees.

Online races promise to be absolute carnage

The preview event, which was set near stunning Lake Garda, Italy, allowed us to appreciate first-hand just how well-realised environments are in the game.

Despite being a work-in-progress, there’s a level of detail here that you’d expect from the likes of Gran Tursimo and Project Cars 2.

Different weather systems were also on display – with rain dramatically changing the look and feel of the course.

Handling

Milestone listened to the community and has now added a “mechanical” approach to the game. This lets you tweak and set up every part of your bike based on real values and metrics.

While a more causal mode caters to the pick-up-and-play audience, it’s this ‘pro’ section that really helps set the game apart.

Don’t look directly at the sun during races

Thanks to improved air physics, grip and collision behaviour – even the smallest tweak will have a huge impact on performance. Choose wisely.

To help you find a set up that’s right for you, make sure to visit the training Compound, which has been improved to allow for more space. Here, you can practice anything from corners, to starts and jumps.

Just be sure to wear a helmet.

Improved physics and handling make it a real challenge – but you can tone the difficulty if you’re after a more casual experience

Wise words

To make the experience as authentic as possible, Milestone has worked closely with a number of pro riders, including Tony Cairoli, Tim Gajser, and Gautier Paulin.

“This year we have been able to completely redefine the physics and the entire gameplay experience of MXGP,” said Lead designer Luca Simonotti.

“We started from the analysis of suspension, we compared the pressure with fork extensions as well as single shock-absorbers using the same values of official MXGP athletes’ bikes; the same process has been done with the ECU mapping.”

Sounds pretty cool to us.

Brutal crashes

Need we say more?

MXGP is home to some pretty brutal crashes, which have been replicated in wince-inducing detail in this year’s game.
