He said: “I will always play my heart out and hope to continue to grow.”

Only former New Brighton manager Neil McBain, who amazingly played himself in goal at the age of 51 due to an injury crisis, surpasses Miura’s feat.

King Kazu began his career at Santos in 1986 and has gone on to play for 13 other clubs, including Genoa and Dinamo Zagreb.

He signed for Yokohama in 2005 – at the age of 38 – and has scored 23 goals in 243 outings.

The Japanese ace netted an incredible 55 goals in just 89 international appearances.

English fans almost got a glimpse of Miura during his record career in which he even outscored Gary Lineker.

Here are five amazing facts you never knew about the world’s oldest footballer . . .

Had an unsuccessful trial at then-League Two side Bournemouth in 1999. Played alongside ex-Newcastle star Mirandinha at Palmeiras in 1986. Outscored Gary Lineker and Brazil legend Zico in the J-League’s inaugural season in 1993. Also crowned MVP that year. Made Japanese history by winning the Asian Player of the Year award in 1993.
